The school day
Nursery AM 8.45am – 11.45
Nursery PM 12.15pm – 3.15pm
Reception 8.55am - 3.20pm
KS1 8.55am – 3.25pm
KS2 8.55am – 3.30pm
We have slightly different times for the children depending upon which year group they are in, as seen above.
The school gates open at 8.40 in the morning and the children enter the school and go straight into class. Early morning work is provided for the children which consolidates their previous learning and helps to set them up for the day. The first lesson then begins at 8.55. Children arriving at school after 8.55 will need to enter via the school office. At Porters Grange we emphasise the importance of being on time in order that learning is not missed.
In the afternoon, the school gates are open from 3.10. The children leave the school through their designated exit at the times shown above.
Assembly
In years 2 to 6, the children meet in the hall on either a Monday or Tuesday afternoon for an assembly with Mr Kyndt. The focus of these assemblies is Growth Mindset. The children explore how their abilities are not set in stone but can be worked upon and improved. Set-backs are re-framed as new challenges to overcome, and failure can be used as a springboard to bigger and better things. Each week there is a different theme towards which the children can work over the course of the week.
On Friday afternoon we have our celebration assemblies. Year 1, 2 and 3 meet with Miss Henley and Year 4, 5 and 6 meet with Mr Aggus. Class teachers choose children who have worked towards their growth mindset target of the week.
Morning Break
The children have a morning break from 10:55 a.m. until 11:10 a.m. Healthy tuck options are available to purchase daily from our school tuck shop. Children can also bring in their own healthy tuck if preferred.
Getting to School
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are many benefits: it is healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, it respects nearby residents and parking regulations and, of course, it is good for the environment. Children may use the school bike racks to store their bikes and scooters. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely and be aware of the permit only parking areas in the vicinity of the school.
